El Cerrito Library, winner of the 2022 El Cerrito Chamber of Commerce Civic Good award, is a small yet busy community library. It is frequently the busiest Contra Costa County Library located in West County. Currently housed in a building from 1949 which was expanded to its current size in 1960, the library collection of over 36,000 items includes books and other materials in English, Spanish, and Chinese. It also offers a wide range of DVDs, a seeds library, and a LGBT+ Special Collection for all ages.
The seeds in the “Seeds of Cerrito” Library are for everyone; there is no membership and you do not have to contribute seeds, although you are welcome to do so. You may take seeds home, plant them and reap the rewards of growing your own vegetables, grains, herbs and flowers.
